Common Art Sprint 4

This Week I focused on finishing up the mech and getting all the low poly stuff in place. This should be the final version of the mech barring some small fixes that may be needed. Since everything is either game rez or using subdivision levels, the UVs and textures should be quick now.

VR Project Final Turn-in

This turn in I updated A LOT of stuff. Almost everything you see in the video has been updated between last time and now. The walls and environment became modular, the columns got changed, the textures got revamped, the chain chomp and piranha plant were updated, the question block was changed, the sun carpet was modeled, the railings and the door got remodeled and textured, I made the hill decorations for the wall, I remade the windows and textured them and also made decals for the stained glass to cast on the ground.

Common Art Week 4

This week I redid the environment assets to make them modular. I separated them out into 3 different types of walls based on whether they had one, two, or no windows. I redid all the textures to line up with our visual style and also tile across pieces. I also made the sun carpet into a separate piece and re-did the textures for that as well. Additionally, I made this little green hill piece to go on the walls as a separate piece to both provide depth and keep the texture quality high. Also, perforce had a massive freakout this week and wouldn't let me submit or pull properly for most of the week, and the version control was completely broken in Unreal as well. Additionally Unreal kept freezing every time I tried to import assets, and I couldn't figure out how to fix it. Overall there were a lot of technical issues that hindered progress this week for me :(.

Common Art Assignment 6: Composition and Target Artist

I chose to do Moebius for my target artist, using a design from KaranaK Alexey Pyatov for the spaceship. I modeled everything in Blender first, then extracted the edges into Illustrator. where I gave them a hand-drawn style. Afterward, I applied gradients to everything and made shadows in Moebius's style.
Here's the ship design:

And here's the model I made in Blender:

And here's the main style reference I used for Moebius:

Common Art Assignment 5: Perspective

I chose to do 2 point perspective and I decided on a modern train car for my subject. I used a model from Sketchfab and rendered multiple passes which I composited together in photoshop. Here are a few of the passes I used:
Mist/Z Depth pass

Base diffuse color pass

Ambient Occlusion pass
And a Cryptomatte/Clown pass for easy masking in PS

Common Art Assignment 4: Use of Basic Lighting

For my common art assignment, I chose to do Tori's design because I'm new to coloring like this and the way she set up her shading made it very easy to block in and adjust my colors.

Common Art Assignment 3: Value and Contrast

I chose to do 2 links and a Pikachu because I was running out of time and I was scared I was gonna be late. I wish I started sooner so I could dedicate more time to it.

Common Art Assignment 2: Silhouettes

For this assignment, I wasn't skilled enough in 2D digital art to make full sketches and create silhouettes from there, so I gathered a bunch of reference images of a Link action figure and followed those very closely to achieve my silhouettes. Mostly just trying to recreate what I saw, and focus on the recognizable forms that I added, like protruding ears, cartoonish boots, and of course Link's iconic sword and shield.

Below are some of the reference images I used.

Common Art Assignment 1: Basic Shapes

I chose to do Samus for my basic shape project. My workflow involved making a quick model of Samus, posing it, placing the basic shapes over the posed model, and shading it in Procreate.

Here's the quick Samus model:

Afterwards I posed it and rendered out a clown pass/cryptomatte image so I could select shapes for shading easier:

And then I used the airbrush and masking to create soft shadows onto my shapes, here's the final result!

Portfolio Project 3 Week 2

Remade it to match the reference closer.
