Common Art Assignment 5: Perspective

 


I chose to do 2 point perspective and I decided on a modern train car for my subject. I used a model from Sketchfab and rendered multiple passes which I composited together in photoshop. Here are a few of the passes I used:
Mist/Z Depth pass

Base diffuse color pass

Ambient Occlusion pass
And a Cryptomatte/Clown pass for easy masking in PS

3D Art Assignment 5: Barrel

 




Here's my reference:




I chose to do a barrel for my assignment. I started off with a low poly version which I sent to Zbrush:


This optimized version clocked in at around 1800 tris.
The final Zbrush sculpt was around 3.8 million polys.



After baking my maps and texturing in Substance Painter we finally got our final product:

For my common art assignment, I chose to do Tori's design because I'm new to coloring like this and the way she set up her shading made it very easy to block in and adjust my colors.

3D Art Assignment 4: Hammer Sculpting

 


For my hammer sculpt, I chose the metal hammer with the nordic engravings.
I thought this design had a great balance between intricate details and basic shapes.

First I made a block-out in Blender:




Then I sculpted edge-wear and engravings using custom alphas I made in Photoshop from Adobe stock images.

3D Art Assignment 3: Head Sculpting





For my head sculpt I chose to make a Behelit from Berserk. They are small egg-shaped relics with human facial features that play a significant role in the story. I thought it would be good to start with this because it fits the assignment of making a spherical head with the parts of the face.

And here are some of my progress shots. The parts I tried to develop the most were the eyes and nose, especially the constrictor muscles above the eyes that helped create the distressed expression.

Common Art Assignment 2: Silhouettes

 For this assignment, I wasn't skilled enough in 2D digital art to make full sketches and create silhouettes from there, so I gathered a bunch of reference images of a Link action figure and followed those very closely to achieve my silhouettes. Mostly just trying to recreate what I saw, and focus on the recognizable forms that I added, like protruding ears, cartoonish boots, and of course Link's iconic sword and shield.

3D Art Assignment 2: Minecraft Scene

 For this assignment, I decided to make the map from the Minecraft "Skyblock challenge", which is an iconic Minecraft survival map where the entire map has been deleted and the player only has access to a small patch of grass, a single tree, and a chest with a few specific items. From this precarious position, it is possible to beat the game even though it can be difficult.

The Skyblock challenge is famous in the MC community and it is one of the maps I first tried with friends, which is why I decided on it. 


I made custom textures in Substance painter and used material instances in Unreal for each block. I also added wind to the shader for the leaves so that they would sway slightly. Here's what the Master Block Material looks like in the material editor:

I also tested out making the materials smoother and offsetting the blocks slightly to see how it looked.
